When Brandon S., a former Green Bay Packer player (a professional American football team), suffered a serious knee injury, he set his sights on a new career.
From his time in Green Bay, Brandon knew that Kimberly-Clark has the reputation of being a great place to work, so he was excited to interview for their Customer Development Associate program (CDA).
The two-year rotation takes management trainees through a variety of departments, including sales, category management, retail operations, finance, marketing and supply chain. And Brandon’s degree in business and economics and his Play to Win approach landed him a spot in the competitive program.
“I didn’t fit the mold for other folks coming into the Customer Development Associate program, and I had to rely on Kimberly-Clark stakeholders to believe in my transferrable skills and take a chance on my ability to make an impact,” Brandon recalls. “The fact that they hired me is a testament to Kimberly-Clark’s values and the ability of everyone to see past my resume and embrace the diversity that I could bring to the company,” Brandon states while reflecting on his career journey.
That was nine years ago, and Brandon has since been promoted four times and worked in several cities. He’s currently working as the senior category sales manager for Kleenex® in Neenah, Wisconsin.
A family man who’s devoted to his wife and daughters, Brandon has first-hand experience of the culture of caring intrinsic to Kimberly-Clark.
“My colleagues show me that that they care in many ways,” he says. “Most recently, it was the ability for me to use our “Flex That Works” policy to eliminate another move for my family and allow me to commute to work in a way that may not have been possible just a few years ago.”
Brandon finds it meaningful that Kimberly-Clark has pledged to cut its environmental impact in half and aid one billion underserved people by 2030. “This is a tangible, meaningful and measurable way that Kimberly-Clark shows care,” he says. “Some of the sustainability efforts don’t benefit our bottom line, but we understand that it’s the right thing to do.”
While talking about Kimberly-Clark’s environment, Brandon mentions that he believes the company’s 10 Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), including associations for Blacks, Latin Americans, Asians, women, veterans, specially abled, family caregivers, new employees and LGBTQ+, significantly contribute to its inclusive and equitable environment.
The ERGs are all voluntary, and each one promotes professional development. “I am hopeful that Kimberly-Clark is but one piece of a larger movement towards a more inclusive, diverse and sustainable future,” he adds.
